B.S. S 98 Heat Treatments
- Final heat treatment: Harden in oil from a temperature between 820°C and 850°C (1510°F and 1560°F); Temper at a suitable temperature between 500°C and 660°C (930°F and 1220°F). Hardened and tempered bars which have been subjected to a cold straightening or cold rolling operation shall be given a stress relieving treatment which shall be sufficient to restore the proof stress.
- Hardened and tempered: 820°C <= θ <= 850°C/OQ + 500°C <= θ <= 660°C/AC; Bars may be finally heat treated before or after cold drawing, cold rolling, machining or grinding. Where bars delivered in the finally heat treated condition have been subjected to a cold straightening or cold rolling operation, they shall be given a stress relieving treatment, which shall be sufficient to restore the proof stress.
