SAE 6559 Heat Treatments


  • Preheat in two steps at 450 to 500°C (842 to 932°F) and at 850 to 900°C, hold for one minute at each temperature, austenitize at 1179°C (2155°F), quench down to 38 to 49°C (100 to 120°F) or lower in air, temper three times at 560°C (1040°F) at least 1 hour at temperature each time, air cool to room temperature 25°C (77°F) between tempers.
