SAE PremoMet Alloy Heat Treatments
- Bars and Mechanical tubing: Annealed at 677 ± 15°C (1250 ± 25°F).
Forgings: Annealed at 677 ± 15°C (1250 ± 25°F) to hardness not higher than 45 HRC, or equivalent.
Response to Heat Treatment of Bars, Forgings, and Tubing
Austenitization: Heat to 918 ± 14°C (1685 ± 25°F), holding at heat for 1 hour and 30 minutes ± 5 minutes, and quenching in oil; Cooling to -73°C (-100°F) or colder, holding at temperature for not less than 1 hour, warming in air to room temperature, and tempered by heating to 260°C ± 6°C (500 ± 10°F) holding at heat for 2 hours ± 0.2 hour, cooling in air to room temperature.
