ASTM F 2281 718 Heat Treatments
- Condition AH4: solution treated at 941 to 1010°C (1725 to 1850°F), held at the selected temperature for a time commensurate with cross-sectional thickness, and cooled at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster. Solution treating temperatures shall be controlled in a range of ± 14°C (±25°F).Precipitation hardening (aging) shall be performed by heating to 718°C (1325°F) held at heat for 8 h, cooled to 621°C (1150°F) at a rate of 56°C (100°F)/h, held for 8 h at heat and air cooled. Parts may be furnace cooled to 621°C (1150°F) at any rate provided the time at 621°C (1150°F) is adjusted so the total heat treat time is 18 h min. Precipitation treatment temperatures and cooling rates shall be controlled in the range of ±8°C (±15°F).
