SAE X12 Heat Treatments
- Bars, wire, and forgings shall be solution heat treated by heating to 1545 °F ± 25 (840 °C ± 14), holding at heat for a time commensurate with section thickness, heating equipment and procedure used, but not less than 30 minutes, and cooling as required to below 90 °F (32 °C). Precipitation heat treated (H1000) to the temperature 1022 °F ± 10 (550 °C ± 6), time 4 hours and cooled in air, oil, or other suitable liquid quench.
