SAE 5926 Heat Treatments
- Specimens protected by suitable means or treated in a neutral atmosphere to minimize scaling and prevent either carburization or decarburization, shall have hardness not lower than 56 HRC, or equivalent, after being heated to 1052 ± 14°C (1925 ± 25°F), held at heat for 30 minutes ± 3 minutes, quenched in oil, subzero cooled to -62°C (-80°F) or colder, held for 2 ± 0.25 hour, warmed in air to room temperature, and tempered at 177 ± 6°C (350 ± 10°F) for 60 minutes ± 5 minutes.
