PROPRIETARY SMV3 Heat Treatments
- Harden: preheat to 750°C; raise to 1010°C; Air cool or gas pressure quench. For large parts, air cooling may be replaced by quenching into a salt bath at 220°C followed by cooling in air to room temperature. It is recommended that cooling should take place in a neutral atmosphere. 1st temper around 550°C, 2nd temper between 550°C and 650°C according to hardness required. Forged at: 1150-1000°C. Annealing temperature: heat at 840°C; Slow cooling.

Tempered: 1st temper at 550°C; 2nd temper between 550°C and 650°C according to hardness required. Nitriding processes results in a hard surface layer providing improved resistance to erosion and wear.
