PROPRIETARY CRUCIBLE 422 Heat Treatments


  • Forged at 1950-2025°F and finished not lower than 1550-1600°F. It is recommended that large section be pre-heated at 1200-1400°F equalized, and then heated to forging temperature. Annealed: Maximum ductility: Heat to 1600°F and hold at temperature 1.5 hours per inch of cross-section, cool slowly to 1300°F, hold 6 hours, then slow cool in the furnace to 1000°F. General Machining of bar stock: Annealed at 1400-1425°F, held 6-8 hours at temperature, followed by furnace cooling to 1200°F. Large sizes (12-inch diameter or larger) should be cooled slowly to 150°F in an insulating material such as vermiculite, lime, or ashes in order to prevent strain cracking.
