PROPRIETARY ATI 418 SPL Heat Treatments
- Forging temperature:
Initial: 1093-1149°C (2000-2100°F);
Final: 871-927°C (1600-1700°F).
For maximum softness, the material should be heated to 657-679°C (1215-1255°F) and held for 6 hours at temperature followed by air cooling.
If a somewhat higher hardness is not objectionable, a simpler annealing treatment is to heat the material to 704-732°C (1300-1350°F) followed by air cooling.
May be fully hardened by oil quenching from 954-1038°C (1750-1900°F) for heavy sections and air cooling from the same range for thin sections.
