ASTM A 403 CR348H Heat Treatments

  • Solution annealed at 1052°C (1925°F) minimum until the chromium carbides go into solution, and then cooling at a sufficient rate to prevent reprecipitation. Quenching media: water or other rapid cool.
A solution annealing temperature above 1065°C (1950°F) may impair the resistance to intergranular corrosion after subsequent exposure to sensitizing conditions. When specified by the purchaser a lower temperature stabilization or resolution anneal shall be used subsequent to the initial high-temperature solution anneal. Stabilization heat treatment at 815 to 870°C (1500 to 1600°F), for a minimum of 4.7 min/mm of thickness and then cooling in the furnace or in air.
For H grades, separate solution heat treatments are required for solution annealing; in-process heat treatments are not permitted as a substitute for the separate solution annealing treatments.
