DIN 1.4905 Heat Treatments

  • Quenching and tempering: Hardened at 1040-1080°C (for wt < 80 mm, cooling in air or controlled atmosphere can be performed), quenched in oil.
Tempered at 750-780°C, held for 2 min per mm thickness, air cooled.

Hot forming should be carried out at 1100-850°C.
After hot forming and for cold forming with deformation rate > 5%, renewed heat treatment is required.
  • Hardened: 1040 to 1080°C, cooled in air (for t >= 80 mm in oil or other similar way) Tempered: 750 to 770°C(at least 60 minutes), cooled in air. Tempered after welding: 740 to 770°C (holding time: t = 8 mm, 30 min; 8 < t <=30 mm, 60 min; t > 30 mm, 2 min/mm), cooled in air. Stress for cold forming: 650 to 750°C (holding time: 2 min/mm thickness, at least 60 min), cooled in air.
