PROPRIETARY NITRALLOY N VAC-ARC Heat Treatments
- Quenched and tempered: 899°C (1650°F), oil quench, temper 649°C (1200°F)
Quenched, aged and tempered: 899°C (1650°F), oil quench, temper 649°C (1200°F) and aged at 524°C (975°F) for 20 hours.
Normalize: 954°C (1750°F) and air cool. Hold at temperature for 1 to 4 hours.
Harden: 899°C (1650°F) and oil quench. Hold at temperature for ½ hour per 25.4 mm of cross-section.
Temper: 649-677°C (1200-1250°F) and air cool. Hold for 1 hour per 25.4 mm of cross-section. The tempering temperature should not be below 649°C (1200°F) to realize the maximum benefit of age hardening.
Age Nitride: 524-566°C (975-1050°F). The nitriding temperature, time, and method will vary depending on the requirements of the final product.
