PROPRIETARY MARVAC 250 VIM-VAR Heat Treatments

  • Maraging Cycle: Hold 3-6 hours at 900°F (482°C), then air cool. Resulting hardness is approximately 50 HRC. Size change during maraging in most cases is negligible; slight shrinkage on the order of 0.0005" per inch can be expected.

Solution Treatment: Hold one hour per inch of thickness at 1500°F (816°C), then air cool. Resulting hardness is approximately 30 HRC. A protective atmosphere is not required, but precautions should be taken to avoid carburization.

Stress Relieving: To eliminate excessive stresses caused by machining or cold working, a solution treatment at 1500°F (816°C) should be performed.
