PROPRIETARY Micro-Melt PD#1 Alloy Heat Treatments

  • Annealing: Heat slowly to 843/871ºC (1550/1600°F), hold until the entire mass is heated through, and cool slowly (do not exceed 17°C [30°F] per hour) in the furnace to about 538°C (1000°F), after which the cooling rate may be increased.
    Hardening: preheat to 843/871ºC (1550/1600ºF), then transfer to 1010/1121°C (1850/2050°F). Hold 45 minutes at temperature.
    Stress Relieving: heat slowly to 649/677°C (1200/1250°F), hold for a minimum of 1 hour at temperature, cool slowly and uniformly to about 427°C (800°F), then cool in still air.
    Tempering: triple tempering at 2 hours per temper is suggested, using a minimum tempering temperature of 510°C (950°F). Tools should be cooled to room temperature between tempers.
