PROPRIETARY CarTech 430FR Solenoid Quality Stainless Heat Treatments


  • Annealing for magnetic properties: Heat at 843-1000°C (1550-1830°F) for 2 hours, then cool at 56°C/h (100°F/h) to 427°C (800°F). A dry hydrogen or vacuum atmosphere is recommended to prevent oxidation.
    Annealing to soften: Heat uniformly to 677-760°C (1250-1400°F), then air cool.
    Hardening: Does not respond to hardening by heat treatment.
    Full annealing: Dry hydrogen annealed at 845°C (1550°F) for 2 hours, then cooled nominally at 56°C/h (100°F/h) to below 427°C (800°F).
    Forging: Heating uniformly to a temperature of 816-871°C (1500-1600°F), then taken to the forging temperature of 1066-1149°C (1950-2100°F) as rapidly as possible. Do not soak at the forging temperature as this promotes excessive grain growth.
    Hot working operations should not be continued when the temperature has dropped below 816°C (1500°F).
    Forgings should be air cooled.
    Cold working: Will withstand moderate cold work, but is not recommended for cold upsetting. The main application for this steel is in magnetic components that are to be machined to shape.
