PROPRIETARY CarTech 21-12 N Valve Steel Heat Treatments
- Annealing: Heat approximately 1h at 1038°C (1900°F), and cool rapidly.
Solution treatment: For critical applications requiring maximum high temperature strength, forgings can be solution heat treated at 1121-1177°C (2050-2150°F) and water quenched.
Stress relieving: When required, parts can be stress relieved by holding at 760°C (1400°F) for 4 to 8 h, followed by air cooling.
Forging: Can be readily forged by both upset and extrusion methods at 1121-1177°C (2050-2150°F). Do not forge above 1204°C (2200°F) or below 982°C (1800°F). Forgings can be rapidly cooled.
