ASTM A 447 Type I Heat Treatments

  • Heated for 24 h at 760 ± 14°C (1400 ± 25°F), cooling at least down to 205°C (400°F) at rates not exceeding 111°C (200°F)/hour.
Magnetic properties of material were obtained after heating specimen in air to 1095 ± 14°C (2000 ± 25°F), holding within this range for 24 h, and then quenching in water. After quenching, all scale and superficial oxidized metal shall be removed in order to avoid errors that might arise from the presence of magnetizable oxides formed during heating.
