ASTM A 437 Grade B4B Heat Treatments
- Heated to a temperature range of 1024 to 1052°C (1875 to 1925°F) and liquid quenched to below 316°C (600°F). After that, it shall be uniformly reheated for tempering at a tempering temperature at least 55°C (100°F) higher than the proposed operating temperature but not less than 621°C (1150°F), then air or furnace cooled to room temperature. The material shall be at the tempering temperature for a minimum of 2h. Double tempering may be used to enhance properties.
Stress relieving: The minimum stress relieving temperature shall be 55°C (100°F) below the minimum tempering temperature.
