SAE PH 14-8 Mo Heat Treatments
- Solution heat treatment: Heat to 996°C +/-4°C hold at heat for not less than 3 minutes per 2.54 mm of nominal thickness and cool in air. Final heat treatment (FHT): Heat to 927°C +/-10°C, hold at heat for not less than 1 hour, rapid cool to 24°C or lower, cool to -73°C +/-10°C within 1 hour, hold at this temperature for not less than 8 hours, warm in air to room temperature, heat to 510°C +/-10°C, hold at heat for not less than 1 hour and cool in air.
- Solution treatment: 996°C (1825°F). Hold for a time commensurate with thickness and heating equipment and procedure used. Quench in water.
Austenitized (SR): 927°C (1700°F), hold 60 min. (+15 min./-0 min.), cooled in air to room temperature. Start transformation treatment within 1 hour. Transformation treatment at -73°C (-100°F), minimum hold 480 min.
