SAE 1074 Heat Treatments
- Normalized: 870-900°C; Annealed: 760-815°C; Hardened: 855-885°C, quenched in oil.
- Specimens shall be hardened by austenitizing and quenching; preferably, they shall not be tempered, but, if tempered, the tempering temperature shall be not higher than 149°C (300°F). During heat treatment, specimens shall be protected by suitable atmosphere or medium or by suitable plating to prevent carburization or further decarburization.
