API Grade 50 Heat Treatments

  • If approved by the purchaser, plates t > 63.5 mm, may be quenched and tempered by heating to a temperature between 1500°F (815°C) and 1700°F (925°C) to produce an austenitic structure, holding a sufficient time to attain uniform heat throughout the material, quenching in suitable medium, and tempering at 1100°F-1300°F (595°C-705°C)
  • The plates shall be quenched and tempered by cooling to a temperature below 1000°F (538°C) after rolling, reheating to a temperature between 1500°F (815°C) and 1700°F (925°C) to produce an austenitic structure, holding a sufficient time to attain uniform temperature throughout the material, quenching in a suitable liquid medium and tempering at 1050°F-1300°F (565°C-705°C)
