SS 2245 Heat Treatments
- Forging: 1100-850°C. Full warm-up. For fan forging possibly heating to 1150°C. Fast heating above 1000°C. Free cooling.
Normalized:820-860°C. Free cooling.
Stress relief annealing: 525-650°C. For toughened state 25-50°C lower temperature than the tempering temperature. For soft annealed condition 600-650°C. Holding time 0.5-2 h. Cooling with the oven to 450°C, there after free cooling.
Strengthening: Cooling in water or oil from 820-860°C. The steel should be tempered immediately after cooling. Annealing temperature (540-680°C) and holding time are adjusted to dimension and desired holding strength.
Hardening: The steel is suitable for induction hardening and flame hardening whereby HRC 55-60 is achieved after hardening and subsequent tempering at 150-200°C.
Soft annealing (state -02): 680-720°C. Holding time 3 h. Cooling max 15°C/h to 650°C, then free cooling.
