UNI 48 Si 7 Heat Treatments
- Austenitizing: 840-870°C, cooling in water.
- This material is normally supplied in the annealed or normalized condition. The following temperatures are given in the specification as guidelines. Anneal at 640 to 700°C. Normalize at 870°C and air cool. Except for the Brinell hardness values, the values shown in the mechanical properties table apply to longitudinal testing of 10mm diameter test pieces subjected to the following quench and temper reference heat treatment (Q + T): Harden by water quenching from 860°C +/- 10°C, after holding at temperature for a minimum of 1/2 hour, and temper at 480°C +/- 20°C for a minimum of 1 hour. The final heat treatment of springs may be carried out as follows (these are guideline temperatures only): Harden by water quenching from 845 to 875°C. Temper at 400 to 450°C.
