UNI 35 CrMo 4 F Heat Treatments
- The values contained in the mechanical properties table for the hardened and tempered (H+T) condition apply to cold drawn wire and to hot rolled or cold drawn bar, heat treated as follows: Harden by oil quenching from 840 to 860°C, followed by tempering at 580 to 620°C for one hour. The same heat treatment shall be used for sheet, strip and seamless tube test specimens in the hardened and tempered condition, giving the mechanical property values shown in the specification. Guideline Heat Treatments are as follows: Annealing: Heat to 680 - 720°C, hold at temperature for a sufficient time to complete transformation, then slow cool in the furnace (approximately 50°C/hour) to 500°C or below, followed by cooling to room temperature in still air. Normalizing: Heat to 880 - 900°C, hold at temperature for a minimum of 2 hours, then cool in still air. Final Heat Treatment: Harden by oil quenching from 840 - 860°C, followed by tempering at a temperature in the range 400 - 650°C to achieve the desired mechanical properties, using the graphs of tempering temperatures versus mechanical properties contained within the specification for assistance. However, to avoid an unacceptable reduction of toughness, tempering should not be carried out within the range 250 - 400°C.
