CSN 19 420 Heat Treatments

  • Forging at 1000 to 800°C slowly cooling in still air or better, for example, in dry ash.
Normalizing at 790 to 810°C, cooling in air.
Soft annealing at 700 to 730°C, several hours of warming (by piece size), usually 4 hours and slowly cooling in the oven.
Annealing to reduce stress at 600 to 650°C, 1 to 2 hours to warm up and slowly cool in the oven.
Hardening in water at 750 to 780°C, (due to the high hardness after hardening, proceed with caution) or in oil at 780 to 800°C thin sections of thickness below 3 mm.
Tempering at 100 to 200°C, cooling in water or air, the degree of tempering is governed by the surface hardness of the tool.
