CSN 16 121 Heat Treatments
- Forging at 1200 to 800°C or 1250 to 920°C and cooling in air.
Normalizing at 880 to 920°C, cooling in air.
Soft annealing at 680 to 720°C, cooling in furnace.
Case-hardening in the gas at 900 to 930°C, cooling in air.
Case-hardening in the powder at 860 to 900°C, cooling in a box or on air.
Case-hardening in the in salt bath at 890 to 910°C, cooling in air.
Hardening at 820 to 840°C, cooling in oil.
Tempering at 150 to 200°C, cooling in air.
Refining (refining is done only to improve machinability): hardening at 850 to 880°C, cooling in oil and tempering according to the required strength, cooling in air.
