B.S. S 156 Heat Treatments
- Normalizing (cooling in air): 910-930°C; Softening (cooling in air): t >= 630°C; The final heat treatment shall consist of: Carburizing or blank carburizing: 880-930°C; Hardening ( cooling in oil): 825+/-10°C; Tempering (cooling in air): 190°C Comment: A sub-zero treatment at -60 to -80°C is recommended before tempering.
