The Effect of Ingot Processing on Fatigue Properties of 7475-T6 Plates

High strength-density ratios have made the 7XXX aluminum alloys extremely attractive for use in aircraft structures. Despite this superior property, limited corrosion, fatigue, and fracture resistance has restricted their commercial usage in maximum-strength tempers.
Improvements in fracture toughness at high strength levels have been shown by recently developed alloys such as 7175, 7475, and 7050, largely as a result of increased alloy purity and specialized processing controls. The application of intermediate thermo mechanical treatments (ITMT) to some 7XXX alloys has also shown promise for increasing fracture toughness levels.

The Electrical Conductivity of Wrought Copper and Copper Alloys

In determining the uses of copper and copper alloys, the properties of major significance are electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, machinability, fatigue characteristics, malleability, formability and strength. In addition, copper has a pleasing color, is nonmagnetic, and is easily finished by plating or lacquering. Copper can also be welded, brazed and soldered satisfactorily.
When it is desirable to improve certain of these basic properties, especially strength, and when such an improvement can be effected with the sacrifice of no other properties except those of limited significance in the intended application.

The Influence of Microstructure on High Temperature Properties of 2024 Alloy

A commercial 2024 aluminum alloy and a modified 2024 alloy containing Zr and V were subjected to a variety of thermomechanical processing (TMP) treatments to produce different grain structures, dislocation substructures and precipitate distributions.
Materials whose microstructures contained a dislocation substructure and spheroidized S precipitates had the lowest creep strengths. The stress dependence of the minimum creep rate did not obey a simple power law behavior. Both alloys having various TMP treatments shoved a decreasing stress dependence of the creep rate at low stresses.
