Alloying designation systems standard lists and material classification
84 Articles
French (AFNOR) Standards for Steel Materials
This group of AFNOR standard specifications covers carbon and alloy steels, plates and forgings used in boilers and pressure vessels, high-strength low-alloy steels, heat-treatable steels, hot and cold-rolled plates for cold forming, the properties of assorted types of steel wire, free cutting steels, steels for concrete reinforcement and prestressed concrete and the properties for railway service rails and accessories. This article also contains standards for tool, stainless, heat-resisting and valve steels.
AISI Designation system
The American Iron and Steel Institute has established a designation system for structural shapes, which has been adopted by steel producers. A four-numeral series is used to designate graduations of chemical composition of carbon steel. The first two digits indicate the grade of carbon steel. The last two numbers are intended to indicate the approximate middle of the carbon range. For example, in the grade designation 1035 represents a carbon range of 0.32% - 0.38%.
AISI-SAE Standard Lists: Structural and Constructional Steels, Stainless and Heat Resisting Steels
The SAE system uses a basic four-digit system to designate the chemical composition of carbon and alloy steels. The first digit (1), of this designation indicates a carbon steel; i.e., carbon steels comprise 1xxx groups in the SAE-AISI system and are subdivided into four categories due to the variance in certain fundamental properties among them.
Australian (AS) Standards for Steel Materials
This group of Australian (AS) steel specifications covers carbon and alloy steel plates for pressure vessels and sheets, strips, slabs and bars for various applications.
Group of ASTM standards for steel castings and forgings
This group of ASTM specifications covers standard properties of steel and iron castings and forgings for valves, flanges, fittings, and other pressure containing parts for high-temperature and low-temperature service.
Group of ASTM standards for steel plate, sheet, strip and wire
This group of ASTM standards covers steel plates, sheets and strips used in various applications, properties of assorted types of stainless and heat resisting steel wires, drawn galvanized wires for mechanical springs, alloy steel coarse round wires and industrial sizing screens.
