SAE 7140 Heat Treatments
- Solution heat treat at 477 ± 6°C (890 ± 10°F);
Recommended aging practice: 121 ± 6°C (250 ± 10°F) for 6 to 12 hours followed by 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F) for 20 to 30 hours to the T7451 temper. - Solution heat treatment: Heat to 477°C ± 6°C (890°F ± 10°F), hold for a time commensurate with product thickness, rapidly cool in a suitable quenching medium.
Overageing shall be performed at a specific temperature and time as required.
