EN 10083-1: 1991 / Quenched and tempered steels - Part 1: Technical delivery conditions for special steels (includes amendment A1:1996)
Heat Treatments
- Hardening: 830-870°C (Temperatures at the lower end of the range are generally used for water, and those at the upper end for oil quenching; Time for austenitizing as a guide: at least 30 min.);
Quenching agent: Water or oil (Other quenching agents such as synthetic quenchants may also be used.);
Tempering: 540-680°C (Time for tempering as a guide: at least 1h.);
End quench test austenitizing: 850 ± 5°C (Time for austenitizing as a guide: 30-35 min.).
- Annealing at 650-700°C; Normalizing at 850-890°C; Hardening in polymer or water at 820-850°C (the samples can be quenched qualifying it from any polymer, provided the cooling rate does not exceed 50% of the rate of cooling in water at 20°C. After remission of cooling air) and in oil at 830-860°C; Tempering at 540-640°C.
