DIN 1.1176 Heat Treatments
- Normalized at 860-890°C until the core reaches this temperature. Subsequently, they have to cool down in stationary atmosphere
Surface hardened at 830-910°C by suitable gas burners or by eddy currents to this temperatures. Quenching is usually carried out in water. In order to reduce the risk of cracking, mildly acting quenchants can be used. If possible, immediately after surface hardening, a stress relief heat treatment shall be made at 140-180°C. The duration of stress relieving depends on the wall thickness. It should be at least 1 hour
